Chevrolet has finally officially revealed the 2020 Camaro SS with a new base trim called the LT1 V8 model. This is an emergency facelift carried out by the Detroit-based automaker. Given that the sixth-generation 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS has faced a big problem with what is called “massive black maw”, it’s considered not suitable for all customers.
Yep, it was bad feedback from most customers on the previous Camaro SS. And now, Chevrolet has painted its Camaro SS body color to remove the grille-splitting black bar that was seen in the previous model. So the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS can be considered almost the same as the 2019 model years or just get a few minor changes and revisions.
Chevrolet apparently took the design style inspiration from their concept car which was showcased at the SEMA show. As a result, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS with its new front-end design looks much more attractive than the previous facelifted model. The most notable change in the new Camaro SS was its front grille design with a Bowtie emblem placed at the upper section of its grille.
Under the hood, the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS is still powered by a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine capable of producing 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2L V8 engine is offered on the new 2020 Camaro SS LT1 Performance Package as the new base trim level for next year’s models with the LT grade body and SS vented hood. Transmission options include six-speed manual transmission with an Active Rev Matching features and eight-speed automatic transmission. The previous Camaro SS is claimed to be able to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds.
There’s also a 3.6-liter V6 engine that is now only offered with a 10-speed automatic transmission on the new Camaro LT. Chevrolet also offers the 2020 Camaro muscle car with several new standard options and new equipment, including new Rally Green exterior color options, new red/orange brake calipers, new alloy wheel designs, and optional red kneepads. While the 2020 Camaro LT1 V8 now gets a 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all season tires and an LT1 badge on its front fenders.
However, there’s no longer a summer performance tire option like the one offered on the previous Camaro SS as a standard option. In addition, the 2020 Camaro LT1 V8 will be available in two models that include coupe and convertible. Some tech features are also available for the new Camaro LT1 such as the Bose premium audio system and Chevy infotainment system2 featuring 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen.
As for the release date and price, the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS LT1 V8 is scheduled to go on sale early this fall along with the entire new Camaro lineup. The price tag will not be too expensive, because the new Camaro LT1 is set to be one of the most affordable V8 cars on the market. The 2020 Camaro LT1 V8 will go on sale at U.S. showrooms for less than $35,000 (including destination charges), which means it’s $3,000 cheaper than current Camaro 1SS prices.
